TALK with Aude Pommeret, EMBS Programme Coordinator

As a first article on the new Alumni platform, the board has invited Aude Pommeret, EMBS Programme Coordinator to present herself and to share her vision where she intends to bring the programme in the future. Speaking of which the programme recently passed through the EPAS recertfication audit, as to obtain a prolongation of 3-5 years.

Alumni: Hello Aude, you have succeeded to Stéphane Ganassali as EMBS Programme Coordinator, please can you further present yourself, your passions and your background?

Aude Pommeret: I am a Professor in Economics, with an expertise in energy and environmental economics. I am also a Scientific advisor for France Stratégie (French Prime minister services) for the French public policy, and scientific director of the Chair in Environmental Economics at USMB.

I am passionate with environmental issues and their relationships with the economies. I am also very interested in discovering different cultures in the world through work rather than tourism, in order to discover how they solve problems and take decisions. It is indeed very helpful and inspiring to observe, analyze and understand why people may have so different priorities and visions. This is what I experienced as an Erasmus student in Glasgow (ages ago), post-doc student in Belgium, and with my past academic positions in Switzerland and Hong Kong.

I strongly value a balanced life with quality time devoted to my three kids and my husband, but also advanced qualifications (professional degrees) in classical music and Tai Chi.

Alumni: Where do you want to bring the EMBS programme in the future, what is your vision?

Aude Pommeret: I would like the EMBS to become the best international programme for management and marketing in Europe. They are a lot of room for improvements to do so, in particular with respect to visibility with for instance a better exploitation of the EPAS accreditation and a better organization so that all the effort the faculty and the students put into soft skills become more visible for potential employers.

To me, environmental issues are the most challenging and exciting issues for this century! No surprise I would like the EMBS programme to benefit from this insight, by making sure it trains managers who will be able to tackle these challenges. However, how to design a greener EMBS still remains to be defined. For instance, shall we make the whole programme greener? At the margin in a discreet way, or by clearly display the will to become greener? Shall we rather add a “green stream” to the existing programme?

Alumni: Did the EMBS experience bring you anything special, in terms of experience or else?

Aude Pommeret: Most of the special experience has been brought by the contact with the students and the international partners.

EMBS students are very dynamic and motivated students. The sort of implicit contract with the students is different from the one prevailing with “standard students”: they are very demanding and as a teacher and coordinator, I can be very demanding too. This is very rewarding for both sides.

On the other hand, the contact with the international partners is very interesting too. It is so much more efficient and creative to discuss and solve problems (because this is basically what means managing the EMBS programme) with people with a different culture! In a way, going for the coordination of EMBS nicely extended my international experience in Hong Kong.

Alumni: You have recently been undergoing the EPAS recertification audit beginning of November, how has it gone?

Aude Pommeret: That was terrible. Programmes that go through this type of accreditation usually benefit from an accreditation service with all the needed administrative support. I had a number of issues (some quite exotic and funny ex post) to fix by myself and with the great help of Camille Ravet who is now in charge of International Relationships in IAE Annecy and of course my 3 partners. I keep the best stories for next graduation ceremony! However, we had the feeling that the process went well and it is a relief.

Alumni: Please can you tell us more about EPAS accreditation, what does that mean for the EMBS program and what are the advantages for the EMBS community?

Aude Pommeret: It provides to the EMBS programme and excellent visibility and provides a proof that it is on the same playground as programmes from the best European business schools.

As a result, it helps us attracting the best students. But it also helps our student find better positions.
